Swanning about the local area is wonderful. As a benefit of the water management systems which create lots of ditches and small canals there are many water birds. So there are a number of swan populations. And they are amazing to observe.
This big guy is very proud of this brood. As we came along the footpath. , they came towards us but we were very quiet and still.
Then he and the female adult seemed very content to allow us to stay really close by.
Two of the little fluffy bundles sat on the grass while the other two went for a swim.
Meanwhile on yet another water way, thee younger adults were swimming too. We think they were last year’s brood.
They came closer expecting food.
All within five minutes of the house.
Do you have any local nature that surprises you?

Very sweet. In answer to your final question, I have a bush right next to my front door which the local bees love. It’s a nice welcome home. And in the evenings flocks of noisy green parakeets swoop down upon the trees at my local park, they spend ages hopping and squawking about, trying to find the perfect roosting spot.
