Green Lizard's Blog

The planet is our home; we need to be more responsible. Here's what I do.

Post number 300: Milestones

Milestones in this space are straightforward. Number of followers, number of hits, daily posting, comments, likes, start dates, anniversaries… There’s plenty of data to think about.

I’ve also blogged about some of those as I’ve continued the process.

For my three hundredth blog I want to do something different. I wanted to think of something different and try to put myself on the spot in writing terms.

I want to write three hundred words that explain why I keep a blog like this (not including the introduction of course).

So here goes:

This blog has a green philosophy. It is intended to record my efforts to live a more environmentally conscious life style every day. Some of the posts are historical, some look forwards or look at now. I want it to be a mixture of projects and attitudes.

I wanted to record them as a personal journal too. It’s not easy being green. Often people respond to our strange habits with laughter or criticism. It requires carving a different path in life that commonly goes against the grain; defies the norm. I’ve learned that greenness needs work, research and some thought.

Must importantly though, I enjoy it. I love it. If I can find a way to improve a habit or change the way we do something, I get a tremendous buzz from that. I can say ‘Yes! We did it!’

I’ve needed to keep learning all the time. Not just here or there but with every single thing. It’s straightforward to live the way you’ve always lived but when you decide that that’s not how you can continue, you almost have to start totally from scratch. Sometimes there’s no clues to help you; you have to figure it out for yourself.

That sounds dreadfully daunting. But it’s allowed to take time. Nobody can change every single aspect of their whole life overnight. I’ve learnt to be patient. I have learnt to be proud of each small step along the way. It’s taught me that that’s how you climb mountains, not by running to the summit. It’s simply by taking it one step at a time. I’m very glad that I’ve learned that in the process of changing and developing my life.

Most importantly, I now know that if there’s anything I want to achieve it is possible with effort and learning.

Ikat in Bahasa means to tie or to tie a knot. Thus the fabric is made of yarn that is tie-dyed before weaving, so the colors are uneven. They usually combine different colored ikat yarns & patterns only emerge after woven. Then they are made into fabric bags, clothes, etc. Your ikat hammock is very nicely patterned. No 2 ikat hammocks will look the same. You picked a nice one. 🙂

Happy Birthday!!!… A blogger friend of mine who lives in Germany just posted about her bee hive. Jennifer is an American living in Germany.. Thought you might want to visit.
