It’s Tuesday.
That can only mean one thing.
The British Sewing bee series 2 on BBC2.
Here’s a sewing tribute of sorts then.
I was given two jumpers. They were woolly and biscuit colour and not quite what I would wear.
But that was part of the plan.
So I deliberately hot washed them in the machine. (With hindsight, I would’ve washed them in a laundry bag to reduce fluff.)
When they came out they were child size and nicely dense.
I then used a pattern piece from this site hat pattern
I also didn’t want to use an expensive commercial dye. The hats would be small. Plus they were wool so might not work well with the dye. A lesson I’ve learned before.
I bought a red cabbage.
I diced half, put it in water and added vinegar. I’d read that it might give a greeny blue effect.
After simmering the diced cabbage for a while. I strained the mixture and added the hat.
It’s now a nice greeny shade.

Who knew? Red cabbage makes greenish blue? Hat looks great! What is this “British Sewing bee” because I think I should be really really mad that I have never heard of it.

It’s a new iconic tv program that’s on the BBC. The good news is series one is on you tube. http://youtu.be/DI0rLz40wgE it’s a sewing competition!

I clicked the link and it said it wasn’t available in my country! What is that, BBC? Still mad about that old Revolution thing? I’m going to check for it on Netflix! It sounds a lot like a show called Project Runway over here, but that show was more fashion, less sewing.

Project runway is very different. Sewing bee is also like the great British bake off. Today they had to make dungarees for a kid. ( I think that’s a jumper in US English) then they gave a pair of trousers, a sweatshirt and a pillowcase to make a fancy dress outfit for a kid. Then there will be a third thing.

Still no luck. Not on BBC America (jerks!) or on Netflix. Ugh! I miss all the good stuff! Might bumble around on youtube for a bit. Maybe they have full episodes for yankees.

There’s a sewing blog that had it last year that was US. I’ll have a look!

I think it’s all copy written. I even tried BBC’s website, but it says it’s not working there either. I shall look further into this mystery! It sounds like so much more fun than Project Runway! Real people sewing real stuff. What a concept. In order for it to be a hit here in the States, we’d need a bunch of d-list celebrities and fighting. Oh, and ridiculously thin models.

Weird though. Cos the renegade seamstress is definitely in USA. I don’t think I can find a link for you…. Cos in the wrong side of the planet.

Sometimes YouTube takes stuff off without much warning, to anyone, ever, for copyright stuff. She probably has no idea the link is broken. Happens a lot. Well, thank you for trying! I did find some fun clips here and there, maybe BBC America will air it one of these days…

I don’t know how well it would go! We used to have some shows like that on a few channels when I was a kid, but now it’s reduced to RFLTV (which is Rural Farm Land TV, it’s basically for older people, with old, old shows) has one show every now and again about quilting and occasionally will have a show with like, a cabinet maker or something. Like old skills. You know, interesting stuff! I like it, but I doubt it would suit the palate around here. Have you ever seen Kitchen Nightmares? If you watch the old BBC versions, before it came to the US, compared to the newer versions, it’s less about the cook, skill or whatever and more about yelling at people and moldy refrigerators. Ugh! We’re all about DRAMA over here! And rednecks, apparently. Google Honey Boo Boo and I apologize on behalf of America for it. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrFyAkSsrGw) is from the TLC channel, which was originally The Learning Channel and is…well, just watch it. And I am so very sorry. Ok rant over, sorry!

I’ve seen honey boo boo! Awesomely bad tv. Mind you if you’ve seen Sone of the hideous uk shows there’s a farmer but of embarrassment over here too! I just hope you get a rerun one day!

ugh, same thing! Not available in my country! Stupid! I’m seriously going to write an email to BBC and ask that instead of 5000000 episodes a day of Star Trek Next Generation, they put in the Sewing Bee!
