The allotment has a lot of interesting things. The plants and bees are often the star of the show.
But there are plenty of other residents.
These amazing metallic bugs live on the mint plants.
They’re called Blue mint beetles. Apparently the blue variety has only been recognised in the UK since 2011. Normally green ones are found on mint.
We don’t see any leaf damage from ours.
Then there’s this odd wasp.
It might be a thread waisted wasp but I’m not sure. It was on the top of our Jerusalem artichokes and it was raising and lowering the real part of its body quite dramatically.
Meanwhile there are lady birds everywhere.
This one was camera shy. Every time I tried to get her she turned around and went towards the leaves.
Are there any unusual bugs and insects in your garden?

I was weeding before the holidays. Not sure what it’ll look like when we get back.

Beautiful bugs! I’m finding if one is open to it just sitting and waiting by the odd leaf, flower or patch of ground you’ll find something fascinating arriving. I got to see my first mantid fly recently. Google it, they’re amazing!

I haven’t come across blue mint beetles (yet), but they are an extraordinarily beautiful looking insect. Great photos!

That wasp was probably laying eggs. Be sure to keep an eye out for your bees; there are some exotic wasps making their way across Europe which will devastate bee colonies. Sorry I can’t i.d. it for you!

Thanks very much. It’s just a macro lens on my phone though : )

I don’t know how you get yours to sit so still to be photographed.

I use a macro lens on my phone. But they don’t move much. One of the ladybirds kept walking away when I got closer to her though.
