The planet is our home; we need to be more responsible. Here's what I do.

Show us the bees

I posted about a new bee location the other day.

We set up a hive next to a wee hedge, between two apple trees.

We chose the location carefully. It had to be south facing. So that the sunlight can warm the hive in winter without lighting the entrance too much. The bees can be deceived into thinking that the summer has come which may lead them to flying out when it’s not warm enough.

It mustn’t be too close to a public path so we made sure it was the right distance away from the cycle path.

The hedge ensures that the bees fly up and away from the hive on their foraging journey.

We added a viewing panel at the back of the hive so the bees can be seen.

As you can see they already look well at home.

I think they’ll be very happy here.
