Sucker for Cetaceans

Everyone loves a dolphin. Quirky sea dwelling mammals. Renowned in folklore for rescuing sailors and having a dirty laugh.

This summer we are going to volunteer on a European research project tracking cetaceans (the dolphin family) in an exotic location.

The Hebrides.

The Hebrides Whale and Dolphin Trust has been conducting research into marine and bird life in this area for some years.

If you’re not familiar with this exotic destination here it is:

A big collection of islands in the east of Scotland.

In the summer we will be volunteering aboard the HWDT vessel, the Silurian.

The project involves spitting whales and dolphins and other marine life, listening to whistles and clicks on sonar and recording information in the data base.

Oh, you’re going to have a great time. That area is one I’d love to visit but only in summer. We expect reports!
