One Million Green Votes: One Seat

Not feeling very post full today. It’s hard to see the way that politics functions without becoming despondent.

The UK election took place yesterday. And now the results are in.

A million people voted Green Party but they only won in one seat.

Trying to find a bright side.

Proportional representation should really be the way to go but I can’t see Cameron embracing that in the next 5 years. 😦

Do you have proportional representation in your country?
    How was it introduced?

No we don’t. The Dutch have a much more distributed vote. There are around eight different parties that share the vote. There is basically always coalition. Since the war the Dutch decided two party politics was a bad thing and that it could lead to fascist dominance.

Don’t feel bad. Over 50% of Americans voted for Al Gore and the world got George W. Bush. We are terribly sorry for this.

Not all bad, UKIP got over three million votes but only got one seat – and Nigel Farage resigned!

  6. My husband stood for the Green Party in last week’s UK elections and quadrupled his vote to 2,350. A couple of other candidates in Wiltshire gained over 5% of the vote which is a huge change. Baby steps……
