The planet is our home; we need to be more responsible. Here's what I do.

Solar powered weekend

Spent the weekend in a friend’s camper van visiting the Belgium town of Ypres which was a significant location in WWI.

The van had a solar panel on the roof. It was brilliant. The panel has a control inside which shows the level of energy being loaded.

Even though the weather was miserable with rain the brightness was enough to have some power going in.

It was retro fitted by the owner and it was brilliant. It feeds a battery (120 watts) which is used to run all the lights and the electric  pumps for water in the van. It was great to see it in action.

Simple and ingenious!

What a great idea. More vehicles should have this as an option. For pickup trucks it would be great. Many have power outlets now and a solar panel would help save the battery.

How simple? Is it a DIY job?

I recently read an article that highlighted windows that can generate solar electricity. Oh yeah, you can see through them too. Think about the tall buildings with all the windows generating electricity. It’s really exciting stuff.
