The planet is our home; we need to be more responsible. Here's what I do.

Freedom for all

When you think of cycle paths do you think of this?

bike access

riding for all

Or this

speedy biker

There’s so much debate about the provision for cycle paths particularly in the UK.

If strikes me that there’s not so much awareness of the breadth of access that can be made possible this way.

Yet

One massive benefit to having bike paths is this:

All three shots were taken in the early morning on my way to work. Hence the poor light. Three people going about their day independently.   And then there’s this example. A whole family without a car travelling on a cycle path. Ironically there’s a recent story of a bike like this being stopped by UK police who said it wasn’t suitable for road use.

Here in The Netherlands all of these things are feasible.

People getting about.

Cake paths? That sound good. Maybe that was a wee typo or do you do things differently in the Netherlands? Anyway, I love your proper cycle paths, allowing people to get around safely. Do you do your gardening shopping by bike? I’ve transported all sorts of wierd and wonderful things on mine.

I’m with you, I love seeing entire families on bikes (or one bike LOL) Here in Den Haag (The Hague) it’s a normal sight of course, I WISH other cities around the world would step up and make cycle paths like these… healthier populations, less pollution and traffic congestion, safer for cyclists, great for all ages and fun… sounds like win win for me 🙂
Bah Humbug to the UK police!

There was another story recently about a policeman in the UK who threatened to confiscate a four year old’s bike because she was riding on the pavement: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-31805312. Daily life here is so built around cars – I envy the cycle paths of the Netherlands.

I’ve seen one of those bikes with the passenger compartment in the Boston area. Last week I saw a bike with what looked like a delivery trailer on it.
I can’t imagine trying to pedal one of those bikes up a hill. Does the family get out and push?

In Melbourne there is a constant war between motorists and cyclists. Too many people being too selfish. Looks like things are better in the nether lands.
