The planet is our home; we need to be more responsible. Here's what I do.

Weird Weather

check out this picture.

I should give you a chance to guess where it was taken etc. Is it during Monsoon in the tropics?

Is it a cyclone event in the Americas?

A tropical storm?

To me the answer is more worrying. Here’s the average annual weather data for this place.

You could guess which months the photo was taken in. I’d go for November, December or January. Maybe.

(The source is here but don’t spoil it.)

That’s not right.

So if I said it was in Europe that might be surprising in terms of the first photo.

Then I could say end of February for the next photo and question.

If you’re a climate change denier then you won’t like this but this place has had its coldest winter for many years.

According to Wikipedia:

Malta has a SubtropicalMediterranean climate according to the Köppen climate classification (Csa),[2][3] with very mild winters and warm to hot summers. Rain occurs mainly in winter, with summer being generally dry. According to the Troll-Paffen climate classification[4] and the Siegmund/Frankenberg climate classification,[5] Malta lies within the subtropical zone. According to International Living, Malta is the state with the best climate in the world.[6]

This year there was snow

It seems for the first time in living memory.

Strikes me that there’s something very wrong going on.

Have you had a weird weather experience recently?

We’ve had our coldest winter in years here while they are having a heatwave on the west coast and our east coast keeps getting hammered with feet of snow. The climate is definitely perturbed.

While I love the warm winter we are having on the West Coast, USA, I’m worried about the lack of rainfall. We are already 8 inches (203 mm) behind our year to date rainfall. So many people are in denial about climate change. You see them driving their cars even on short trips to the post office or grocery store. My wife and I are proud to be able to bicycle to get our mail at the post office despite the fact that it’s a 3 mile round trip. (4.8 km) and we’re in our late 60’s. People have got to sacrifice a little bit to reduce our carbon footprint because we are borrowing from our grandchildren.

It’s great to get out in the fresh air to do errands. It switches the focus too. Better for you.

It’s happening all over not as drastic but here in the UK we had snow in this month, supposedly it’s spring and the temp is 6degrees. We need to start changing our attitude before it’s too late !
