The planet is our home; we need to be more responsible. Here's what I do.
When we started bee keeping, there was plenty of stuff that we could get to do the work.
Some of it had big price tags.
And some of it seemed
a bit very unjustified.
As one of our teachers put it:
A honey bucket is just a bucket in any other situation.
I guess it’s like flowers on Valentine’s Day.
One such example of costly item, though useful was the smoker.
We no longer use smoke with bees as wwe’ve found other methods.
However, here’s the smoker we used to use.
It’s a bean tin.
We really didn’t want to buy one so this is what we came up with.
As you can see it’s really just a tin. We made a bellows with wood and leather. Then made a connecting hole to the tin and joined the two together. It also needed a lid with a pipe to direct the smoke.
Simple, recycled and repurposed. Cheap too.
