Oatmeal Biscuits

The resident chef made some lovely biscuits. We are experimenting with making our own biscuits instead of buying such things.

So he found a recipe with honey in and used soya milk instead of regular milk.

Ingredients

Oatmeal
Honey
Rice flour
Butter
Soya milk

Then he added cocoa nibs to some of the mixture.

It went well but perhaps spent too long in the oven.

Delicious!

    I have just made these and they are great. I made a few changes to suit me, much less sugar than the original recipe and the addition of cinnamon. Totally crunchy and delicious. Thanks for posting!

      Glad you like them. We do need do do them again. The added chocolate nibs were very good. I’m glad you tried them too. Less sugar sounds good too.

        I’ll add chocolate next time for sure and keen to try your version once I stock up the larder. We’ve stopped by sweet treats (apart from chocolate) so recipes like this are always welcome. 🙂

        We need to stop buying too. It’s crazy as we can make our own. Just takes a little organisation.

    I think it’s interesting how our countries speak the same language and yet every once in a while, a word pops up and catches me by surprise. Here in the States, a biscuit is made with flour, baking powder, buttermilk, and butter. It’s light, fluffy, and not sweet at all.

    Those are called “cookies” here. I don’t know why.

    The only reason I bring it up is because it took me a moment to process your title to your picture. “Why is she calling cookies biscuits? Oh, because that’s what they’re called where she lives. I need some coffee.” hahahaha!

      Yep it’s confusing. I think you ‘biscuits’ are more like what we would call a scone.

        A little. We have scones here too. Biscuits are in a league of their own… Here’s a recipe: http://southern.food.com/recipe/southern-buttermilk-biscuits-26110.

        If you have a gluten allergy, you can’t make them because you HAVE to use all purpose wheat flour. There’s no way around it. They are light, fluffy, and oh, so decadent (all that butter and buttermilk). But so worth it right out of the oven. Luckily, I don’t make them that often. ^_^
