This is a curious situation. There’s two big supermarkets in our area.
One is called
And the other is called
The first has a new advertising campaign where a man in his garden proudly exploring his slightly strange vegetables is taken to the supermarket by a woman (his wife?) and shown all the standard size, shape ‘lovely’ vegetables there. Then he can throw away his trowel!
The second is doing a give away called ‘Start your own allotment!’
When you spend a certain amount you get free seed starter kits.
Isn’t that weird?
I know which one makes most sense to me. And they’ve given up their normal plastic toy give away.
Im not advertising either one but I was certainly entertained by their opposing ideas.

When advertisers collide – interesting stuff! Their market research must have said totally opposing things – or else someone got it very wrong 😉

Or both companies are owned by the same hidden proprietor and they are covering both ends of the market.

Oooooh that’s a devious idea!

That is quite a contrast. I wonder if the first one might be reacting against people starting to realize that pristine, uniform produce isn’t that important.

I know that the advertising world is full of contradictions, but this is hilarious. In capitalism, it is necessary to understand that everything is made to support the production and consumption. Therefore, it is strange that they would offer seed pack to their customers. On the other hand, it can be explained in terms of the gamification theory, which increases connection between people and certain products or even marks. There are plenty of books which explain such strategy and give advices how to attach people to certain events.
