The planet is our home; we need to be more responsible. Here's what I do.

Making Scented Soap

I recently posted about making soap. Yesterday a couple of friends were visiting but the weather made us reluctant to leave the house.

We decided to make some more soap but this time with added ingredients for flavour.

First we stripped some home grown lavender buds from their stalks.

The ingredients were easy to assemble as we used the same recipe as before.

This time we were adding lavender essential oils, the lavender buds and our own honey from the bees.

The essential oil and honey were added at the stirring stage.

Then the plan is to add the lavender buds as a decorative element when the soap is fairly hard after about 24 hours.

This time we also decided to use some moulds to make a shaped soap as well as the plain shaped.

The moulds we had were silicone baking moulds in the shape of a flower.

The flower shapes turned out well.

I’ll update with the bud photos later when we’ve done them.

It was great to have soap with our own bees wax, honey and lavender as key ingredients.

Liz is right, you do make it look easy! Funny I just read another post on making soap this morning and had commented there that I might try it with lavender, looks like everyone is feeling creative for January! http://thekitchensgarden.com/2015/01/03/how-i-make-soap/

Soap making is something we’ve talked about but never quite got round to trying – might just add it to my creative ambitions for 2015!
