The planet is our home; we need to be more responsible. Here's what I do.

Follow that Tree: October

For the first time I almost forgot. So I’m two days late. I got home in the dark yesterday so photos weren’t happening.

Very strange as I’ve been very aware of the seventh each month up until now.

(Ironically the host, Lucy, of this meme got caught short too though. )

The weather has changed dramatically in the last three days. We’ve suddenly got autumn temperatures and the wind has picked up. There’s been lashing rain and lightening squalls.

The tree is stoically ignoring the conditions. She’s happily standing proud and keeping her leaves so far.

I thought it would be interesting to use my macro lens on the lichens.

There’s quite some variety. Scaly, feathery and leafy structures adorn the trunk.

Different colours and different levels. It’s fascinating.

I also wanted to give an impression of the trunk so used panorama to do this.

She’s an amazing tree!

Trees are wonderful at all times of year. I love the way you have captured the variety of colour in the bark. Trees are amazing in the way they share their space with so many other organisms, from lichens, mosses and fungi to insects, birds and animals. In our part of the world Autumn leaf tints are well in progress now.

How very interesting to see the vertical stripes of colour on the trunk – so many of them.

I used a panoramic setting on my phone and walked round the trunk filming it! The stripes are unusual!
