Fun Foto Challenge- Buildings

This photo challenge wasn’t one that really grabbed me to start with. I’m not often one to pho graph buildings. But then i had an idea.
There were a number of contrasting buildings on our recent trip to Indonesia.

The simple one storey bungalow where we stayed. Based on a fisherman’s house it had one room and the bathroom was outdoors. A simple thatched roof and basic facilities.

In contrast, the buildings of Dubai en rouste to indonesia, were anything but simple.

Floor upon floor of steel and glass with high brow architecture and grand design.

Rising into the sky with a challenge to the elements.

Buildings do contrast between different countries and when the difference is this marked it’s quite noticeable.

The buildings in Dubai are really something else. I visited Dubai once as my husband had a business trip, but I can’t say I liked it very much. I prefer your little bungalow.

It’s a strange place. I’ve been in Dubai and Abu Dhabi this year both are very unusual.

I think some of the architecture in Dubai is interesting and cutting edge. But if you have spent any time in Dubai you will have seen the workers bussed into the construction sites. These migrant workers , most of them Indian, live in labour camps in awful conditions. They work long hours in the heat; both their living conditions and their working conditions are appalling. It is some years since I was last there, but I don’ t suppose things have improved much, if at all.
It is difficult to appreciate beautiful buildings when you think about the human misery and exploitation which has gone into their construction.

You’re so right. I’m not a fan of this type of building and the ethics of this type of structure is so often ignored.

There is a lot of contrast to your buildings. I’m glad you decided to have some fun and play along even if it isn’t your best topic. It isn’t mine, either, but I know a lot of people like buildings.

Yep. It’s good to stretch the brain cells and think about things from another angle.
