TV viewing tonight: Horizon

This is an unusual post for me but there’s a two part program on BBC 2 from the UK tonight.

It’s called, “Should I eat meat?”

Now before it appears that this is a vegan plot. There’s two parts to the show. First this week they look at the health implications of eating meat in your diet.

But next week they look at the environmental implications of whether the planet can produce enough meat to sustain people long term.

Could be worth a viewing.

Meanwhile I’ve noticed a growing trend recently. twitter founders investing in meat substitute.

And then there’s the likes of Al Gore, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton….

Apologies again if you can’t access UK TV.

Wooly. They can’t come down on one thing or the other. So they gave lot of info but weren’t prepared to say do t eat meat. They said if you don’t eat it you might miss out in nutrients. They said eating a bacon sandwich every day takes an hour a day off your life. And that people who eat small quantities of processed meat have an increased risk of disease and cancer.

Like people inclined to watch the programme wouldn’t already know this!! Just had a conversation with colleagues in the kitchen about it – their reactions were the same!

It wasn’t really new. The twitter feed had a 50/50 split. The “I love meat it’s part of a balanced diet. I’d rather die younger and be happy eating meat” vs the “meat? Wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole!” There were a couple of. ” oh didn’t know bacon was processed. Better stop eating that then!” Too.

Well, at least some people have learned that bacon is processed meat!

I find those programmes depressing. I also find them insulting when they suggest that people who don’t eat meat miss out on a balanced diet. I would probably have thrown something at the screen.

I know. But one the positive side I now enjoy watching twitter while such things are in. Seeing the reaction if those who had no idea where their food comes from. ( I think the bbc doesn’t ever come down against powerful investors like the meat industry. )
