Cooler than you think
This may look like a pile of terracotta pots but it’s very exciting.
When we cycle to the allotment on a hot sunny day. There’s nothing more desirable than a refreshing cool drink.
But the challenge is keeping it cool. If you’ve cycled you don’t really want to bring a cooler box/bag and add to the stuff you need at the plot.
I’d read about a simple no energy cooling idea that’s been used successfully in Africa.
A guy called Muhammed Bah Abba won an award when he developed the idea.
So I thought I’d give it a go.
It’s very simple. Basically you need two clay pots and a clay saucer as a lid. I put a smaller saucer underneath. The clay pots have good insulating properties.
One pot needs to fit inside the other and the gap between the pots can be filled with damp sand.
It’s very simple.
So the good news is. The chocolate on my snack bar didn’t melt. And the drinks were cooler when they came out after about an hour than when I put them in.
That’s a good result.
(And I’ve found a way that works for me to watermark my photos on here. Now all I need is an easy way to watermark all the ones I uploaded already).

If you use uMark, you can bulk upload your images and then bulk watermark them. It’s very easy to use (thank goodness!) and they give you heaps of info how to use the programme.

The challenge is I need to water mark photos that I’ve already uploaded. That sounds like a good option from here on though. I also tend to work from my iPhone to give myself more headaches. Thanks for the tip : )

Interesting idea.
I need to watermark my photos but no idea how to do it. pobept gave me a link but on a smartphone (especially mine, which apparently is old – coming up for two years old, so very old indeed!) I didn’t see how I could use it.

I’m now using one called photomarkr. It’s on an iPhone. It’s very simple so there’s no need to make choices and fiddle. You choose text then black or white. The. Open photos on the phone. Click the c symbol and then save. I just need a way to watermark the photos I’ve already uploaded. All 1200 of em!

I found one that works on Android (for anyone reading your blog who also uses Android it is called Add Watermark). Like you’ve said for yours, it is really simple to use.
The issue I thought I would have is amount of memory – or lack of – but this app is really small. Because of the phone’s lack of memory, though, I’ve already saved my photos elsewhere, so I feel your pain at going through all the photos on your blog and watermarking them!!

Definitely. It’s such an amazing thing that I can take a photo with my phone and put in on the internet where people from all over the planet see it. Still blows my mind.

Does create a paradox in that we are still engaging with the globalised world – not that I have a problem with globalisation in this way.

Me too. I’ll look it up as I tend to take pix with the iPhone and blog post from iPad. I © them when I’m working on the laptop via a camera prog but I haven’t bothered since I started using HalPad. Thanks for the info.

I know where I’ll be keeping my milk from now on down my allotment. I’ve seen this before from some Indian guy but you just reminded me of it and it’s effectiveness.

What a great idea! Thank you for sharing it. I am still thinking about the whole water mark thing. I still not sure I even mind if someone uses my photos. Finding a simple way would help sway my thinking.

I’m not too worried with many of my photos. But I also like the professional look and the additional reference. I haven’t got a way to do it retrospectively but I think I’ll go back over time and redo some of them.
