The planet is our home; we need to be more responsible. Here's what I do.
This is the fourth week I’ve participated in this blogging meme. This week Preeti has given us Entrance.
Now to begin with I was really stumped this time. But then I had an idea.
The Netherlands has a lovely hidden tradition. The hofje is commonly a square with houses on each side or a narrow formation if buildings. In the middle a private shared garden or courtyard is created. These enclosed housing squares have been a long established housing tradition.
Originally they were alms houses created for communities of women. There’s more information about them here. hofjes
In some towns guided walks visit hofjes to give the opportunity for people to experience this unique private space.
So here is the entrance to one such hofje.. I can’t reveal what’s inside as the garden was closed when we passed by.
You can picture it though. Small alms houses on either side and a carefully tended garden of flowers filling the centre. There will be a space inside where trees offer shade over a neatly cropped lawn. Trim hedges will flank the sides and a path will enable cyclists to pass to their front door. There are no cars here.
What can you ‘see’ inside?
