Two years ago I decided to stop buying new clothes.
It seems I have a purple tendency in all things including my wardrobe. The other day while visiting friends to check their hive I realised something funny.
My whole purple outfit had a prehistory.
My socks were a gift because another purpl-phile (is there such a word?) donated them.
Wrong shade!
My new to meshoes (navy) were at the second hand store or kringloop.
The prelovedtrousers had been too colourful for another friend.
My donatedcardigan donated during a wardrobe clearance from someone else.
The second chance fuschia tunic also spoke to me from the kringloop racks.
What an historic ensemble!
The friend we were visiting had remarked that I looked stylish!
Suppose I must illustrate this with a snapshot.
I guess all I need now is a raspberry beret.

You look great – all you need now is purple hair like mine!

True. That’s an ambition of mine but it’s not asking for colour yet. Still too few colour free strands ; )

Very stylish 🙂 I too am a second hand rose but can’t call myself a purple girl.

Thank you. I’m pleased that now I’m commonly mostly dressed in second hand things. It makes it very easy!

It does and if you do happen to buy 3 tops and not just one it’s not a biggy lol

Very true! I’m finding now though that I buy hardly anything at all even second hand. Just don’t feel I need it.

I am the same actually…clothing just isn’t that important to me anymore. It’s funny, when you make a conscience choice to buy this way sooner or later you start to realise how little of anything you really need, or want!

It’s part of breaking the cycle and making choices for ourselves instead of under the influence of media and big business. And it becomes a great relief.

Time to re-name the blog – purple liz(ard) much more apt!
I love purple 🙂 It wasn’t always so… when I was at school, in the 80’s, we had a (Catholic) RE teacher who dressed all in purple and kept going on and on about contraception (she was in favour). Back then, purple was definitely not fashionable, and man, she was just sooooooo embarrassing! But now I think she was probably the coolest person on Earth, lol.
Re. embargo on new clothes buying: please tell me you’re making an exception for M&S smalls…

Sounds like the kind of teacher I am?!;)£#*! Oh no! The name won’t change though. Ironically I don’t like green in that context but it’s green for the environment. I’ve not needed new underwear yet.

I was only there in a supervisory capacity that day. Though as long as I put on a veil and tuck my trousers In My socks I’m good.

There is no such thing as too much purple. In fact I’d invite you to join me in purple sock Friday – an important cultural ritual amongst me and my friends.

I shall join happily. Though in summer it will be with purple sandals no socks : )

You look lovely. What cracks me up is that I’ve just about stopped buying clothes as well. I have shirts (solid color, classic v-neck) that I’ve had for 10 years and they’re just now starting to show wear. Much of my clothing is second hand and I couldn’t be happier. My kids are wearing thriftstore clothes, my younger son is wearing some hand me down thrift store finds! I got an entire winter wardrobe for the older one for $36 last year. Love it!

I tend to enjoy the compliments I get more in the knowledge that it was second hand and low cost.

Thanks. I guess to me if everything we own has a legacy in the future we should consider it’s past.
