The planet is our home; we need to be more responsible. Here's what I do.

I am not a fan….

I am not a fan…..
…. Of disrupted TV schedules
…. Of macho posturing
…. Of multicolored plastic flags that will pollute the planet
…. Of random firework displays
…. Of car horns tooting and blaring

I am not a fan…
…. Of international rudeness
…. Of over paid celebrity
…. Of peculiar Facebook posts
…. Of assumed interest in scores
…. Of baffling hero worship
…. Of giant financial investment

I am not a fan…
…. Of shiny synthetic shirts
…. Of sensational headlines
…. Of assumed interest
…. Of late night big screen moments
…. Of compulsory participation
…. Of insincere flattery

I am not a fan….
…. Of politicians who use support as a voting tool
…. Of aggressive pitch behaviour
…. Of increased domestic violence
…. Of excessive drinking
…. Of threatening opinion
…. Of increased risk of domestic fire

I am not a fan…..
…. Of sectarianism
…. Of racist behaviour
…. Of persecuted poor people
…. Of over indulgence in takeaways
…. Of sexist comments from managers
…. Of desperate disappointment

I am not a fan….
…. Of showmanship
…. Of sporting dominance
…. Of acting injured
…. Of homophobia
…. Of rigged matches
…. Of biting people!

I am not a fan….
…. Of soccer or football!

Couldn’ t have said it better, although I don’ t care about disrupted TV schedules as I don’ t watch telly. But all that fuss about men kicking balls about. Incomprehensible.

Biting people? I find myself really, really tempted sometimes…

      Well if it’s consensual that’s a different matter ; )

High fives across the seas, Darl – you and me both, I so totally agree. Thank god the world cup only rolls around every four years.

It’s just so pervasive! Why aren’t we able to choose something else?

The thing is that among all the hype and the rubbish and the bad manners and the cheating, football is a wonderful game to play and a wonderful game to watch. It must be the cheapest team sport in the world to play which is a bonus.

For you maybe. I understand that some people enjoy it but I am completely fed up with the hype and the assumptions that the whole world wants to watch a bunch of overpaid (in most cases) fools rather than care about or enjoy anything else. I personally find football very boring yet on the tv currently they have a campaign which features a cat for those who don’t want to watch the tournament. So patronizing

It’s not a very inclusive thing. Those interested in sports can go ahead but why can’t the rest of us be left in peace.
