I’ve been invited to join a photo posting meme by Preeti
So I thought it would be nice to explore this as I haven’t given my photos a lot of thought. They supplement my writing and illustrate my stories but I’ve never really thought about them as a focus.
But I do like taking photos and have been known to take the odd good shot.
The theme of her photo compilation this week is ‘Alike‘
So this was an obvious topic for me. Our latest hens are ‘the Thompson Twins’; two red New Hampshire bantam sisters.
I wanted to capture their tendency to walk around parallel, in step, like formation ballroom dancers.
Inevitably they immediately avoided each other and the camera initially. So the formation dancing didn’t occur I settled on this image because it was the closest I got to the mirror imagery they commonly have.
They are our fourth and fifth hens. We got them at about twelve weeks and we hope they start laying any day now as they should have by now.

Lovely colours! I’m still a hen newbie, but I think the combs get larger/redder before them start laying? (From what I can remember of ours, anyway!).

That’s true. Our other three are laying so it’s all good.

It’s nice that you live somewhere you can have chickens. 🙂
I hope they give you some eggs soon.

And btw hope the twins lay soon…then you’d have a brood of chicks..’The Thompson brood…(is the terminology correct? brood?)

We won’t gave chicks as there’s no male. It would be a brood if there were though : )
