Storking the big birds!

I’ve written two posts about a white stork nest near where I live.

So I shared the good news that there were three or four chicks successfully hatched.

Now it’s time for an update.

There are three giants in the nest now.

They seem to start the day with a rest. The tree head the nest lies on is around fiery feet high. Though I do need to measure it. Like posts and telegraph poles this high it sways slightly.

The parent bird, let’s call her mum, stands quietly watching over her brood. There’s no indicator that they will fall even though it’s a precarious location.

The three babies are quite focussed. Maybe they know it’s high.

How they deal with the crowds up there is a mystery to me but it’s good to watch their progress.

They will probably start fledging near the end of June. I’m not sure whether I’ll get to share evidence of that.

Yes. I know we were aware that stork populations were significant further east. You should blog about them. Geographical differences are fascinating. In Lithuania the stork is highly regarded.

Guess they got space management to a perfect science or they’re hunting for a new residence lol 🙂

Wow! Cranes sound very big. Our storks are 1.40m I think.

Fingers crossed they’ll survive though the odds are only one will make it.
